Weathermelon is designed to give the user detailed information about weather affecting the US fresh produce markets while also providing detailed product info on the location and seasonality of the major producing regions around the world.
1) PRODUCE TYPES
FOLLOWING a Produce type moves it to the top of the list and ACTIVATES the Notifications for that produce type. Each produce type contains detailed information on the active and inactive growing regions.
Please contact Weathermelon if you would like to add a new produce type.
2) PRODUCING REGIONS
ACTIVE regions are highlighted in GREEN
INACTIVE regions are highlighted in BROWN
The regions will automatically be activated or deactivated based on the current date. The active/deactivate dates are based upon USDA data but are to be used as a guide only.
INACTIVE Regions move to the bottom.
ACTIVE Regions move to the top.
The monthly AVG temperatures for the region are displayed next to the region name. Selecting a region gives detailed weather/map info about the region. Radar map sreen shots are provided for US regions only.
Please contact Weathermelon if you would like to add a new region or suggest new activate/deactivate dates.
3) NOTIFICATIONS
Your NOTIFICATION experience is controlled by the Notifications section of your phone SETTINGS. You can TURN ON/OFF and adjust the TYPE of Notifications.
SETTINGS > NOTIFICATIONS > Select Weathermelon or
SETTINGS > WEATHERMELON APP > NOTIFICATIONS
A consolidated version of the notifications can be activated/deactivated from within the Weathermelon settings options.
There are THREE notification types:
NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE NOTIFICATION (US only)
Sent out by the National Weather Service of adverse weather conditions affecting a region.
WEATHERMELON PRECIPITATION NOTIFICATION
Sent when ONE day within the 10 day forecast for a region has at least 40% chance of precipitation.
WEATHERMELON HI/LO TEMP NOTIFICATION
Sent when TWO CONSECUTIVE days of the 10 day forecast are predicted to experience extreme Hi/Lo temperatures outside the monthly stated avg.
New NOTIFICATIONS are sent out ONCE daily in the morning and may differ from weather conditions as the day progresses.
All notifications are erased at MIDNIGHT.
4) WEATHER DATA
Weather Data is Powered by WEATHERUNDERGROUND and is updated approximately every three hours.
Weather data is ALWAYS provided for a region, only ACTIVE regions from FOLLOWED produce types will have notifications sent out.
